Vegan Butter

It’s hard to deny that a buttery taste makes everything better. It’s the delicious, salty and creamy staple we’ve all grown to love. Most people use it without putting a single thought into it. There’s only one problem. This delicious ingredient contains dairy products. So, for vegans like us, it’s simply not an option. Or is it?

What if I told you that there is a dairy-free alternative that everyone can enjoy, even those living a vegan lifestyle? It may be hard to believe, but Heather-Leigh and I want to give you all the need to know information on something we consider to be a life saver.

What Is Vegan Butter?

The simplest answer is all of the taste and meltiness we have all grown to love without any dairy. I know, this might sound kind of crazy to someone new to the world of veganism. However, the truth is, this substitute tastes just as good, if not better than products that come straight from a cow.

What Is Plant Butter?

Not to be confused with margarine, this plant-based product is simply an alternative that provides phenomenal buttery taste and exceptionally similar texture while containing no dairy products. It may be closely related to margarine, but there are some key differences.

We have been vegans for years and we want you to know that while many of the available products are made using products from animals, enjoying this delicious spread doesn’t have to become a thing of the past. You just have to find the right alternative and we would love to point you in the right direction.

Is Butter Dairy?

Often times, it’s made from cream, and since cream comes from cows, it’s should be avoided by anyone on a dairy-free diet. The good news is that there are plenty of substitutes that provide the same taste whether you’re baking with it or using it as a spread.

So, if it’s not made with dairy products, what’s in it? We found ourselves asking the same question. After some quick research, we were able to discover that this amazing substitute is made with healthy ingredients. While one recipe may slightly vary from the rest, the most common ingredients used are nutritional yeast, oil, nuts, and plants.

What To Use Instead Of Butter

Have you ever wondered, “What can I substitute for butter?”. We’ve been there before too, and we want you to know that there are plenty of solutions.

The simplest would be picking up a vegan alternative from your favorite grocery store. However, through the years we’ve learned that there are plenty of substitutes you likely already have in your home.

Dairy Free Butter Substitute

There used to be a time when finding a good replacement for butter was hard to do. These days, butter alternatives are plentiful which makes life a littler easier for vegans like us. We’re happy to say that struggling to find a good brand or make our own substitute for butter has became a thing of the past.

Plant Butter

This is by far one of our favorite substitutes. We think it tastes a lot better than margarine and it’s actually a lot healthier too. We’ve found some brands are better than others, especially when it comes to certain needs like baking. Overall, we are really impressed by what we’ve tried. No trans-fat, dairy, or gluten and incredibly delicious, what more could we ask for?

Plant Based Butter

You’re probably thinking, isn’t this alternative just margarine? The two may be similar, but they do have differences. Even though margarine is mostly plant-based, some brands include a small amount of dairy in their products and that creates an issue for us. Luckily, 100% plant-based products are there to save the day.

Dairy Free Butter

Let’s be honest, living a dairy-free lifestyle isn’t always easy. The good news is that when there’s a will there’s a way and there are plenty of alternatives to choose from. Non dairy butter has made veganism a lot easier for us. We were surprised when we learned for ourselves how well it works. We even use it when we are baking.

Healthy Butter Substitute

Heather-Leigh and I like to always put our health first. You might think that this means sacrificing on taste, but that’s not the case at all. We’ve found several healthy alternatives that taste amazing without containing high amounts of hydrogenated oils, trans fats, or saturated fats. Nearly every plant-based product we have found is fairly healthy.

Substitute Coconut Oil For Butter

Coconut oil is extremely versatile. However, can you substitute coconut oil for butter? Absolutely, and we do it on a regular basis. There isn’t even a crazy amount of math involved which is something all you bakers our there will probably appreciate. Simply substitute coconut oil for other fats with a 1:1 ratio. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

Olive Oil Butter

Olive oil is amazing on its own, but once it gets turned into a buttery spread, it becomes a game changer. It pairs perfectly whether you’re spreading it on toast or using it to sauté your favorite veggies and everything between. Just make sure you pay attention to the ingredients or purchase a vegan friendly brand when shopping. Some products may contain dairy products.

Earth Balance vegan butter provides the taste, texture and richness that people go crazy for. We love it because it works perfectly for baking and its buttery taste takes ordinary dishes and makes them incredible. It’s also affordable and available almost anywhere which is always a big plus.

Melt Organic comes in a few different flavors and even offers sticks, which definitely gives them an edge. Spreads are great but trying to measure them out for baking can be a hassle. Melt has managed to combine convenience, flavor, and eco-friendliness into an amazing tasting substitute.

Is Margarine Vegan?

Margarine is primarily made from refined plant oils and water, but is margarine dairy free? The answer to this question depends on what brand we are speaking of. We were shocked when we found out that some brands of margarine are not dairy-free. This confusion can cause a real nightmare for vegans. Save yourself the hassle and guessing game by going with a brand that is clearly labeled as vegan margarine.

Vegan Butter Recipe

We love spending time in the kitchen and we know how exciting it can be to make something with our own hands. We thought making our own buttery substitute would be complicated but that wasn’t the case at all. After some quick research on the internet, a handful of ingredients and a small amount of time, we were able to craft an alternative that would fool even the biggest dairy lovers.

We’ve found that the following ingredients work best:

• Refined Coconut Oil
• Avocado Oil or Canola Oil
• Nutritional Yeast
• Almond Milk or Unsweetened Soy
• Turmeric
• Apple Cider Vinegar
• Salt

Keep checking back for a full recipe from us.

How To Make Vegan Butter

Making your own vegan alternative is incredibly easy and it usually only takes about 5 minutes. We usually start by adding our oils to a blender. We let this sit for a moment while we stir vinegar into either almond milk or unsweetened soy. The important thing is to allow the mixture to begin to curdle before adding it to the other ingredients in the blender. Once it’s ready, blend together until smooth and creamy. Simply pour the mixture onto a dish, refrigerate for a few minutes, and then enjoy.

Butter Substitute For Cookies

Cookies have always been one of our favorite treats. Needless to say, we’ve spent a lot of time trying to find substitute ingredients that provide the same softness, gooeyness and flavor as dairy products without compromising our vegan lifestyle.

We think the best alternatives are oil and applesauce, depending on the type of cookie we’re craving. Oil provides a softer cookie while applesauce provides a denser, sweeter cookie.

Butter Substitute In Baking

Some people find it hard to believe that we still enjoy baking. After all, most recipes call for dairy products. The good news is that there are plenty of substitutes. Knowing how much to use is the tricky part.
